Due to the annually rising demand for sand and the finite nature of natural resources, there is a supply bottleneck for the steadily growing construction industry. Internationally, there is now talk of a sand shortage. Sand is typically extracted from natural deposits. However, these cannot meet the rising demand, as not all naturally occurring sand is suitable for the construction industry.
In sand production, gravel and other rocks that occur in larger grain sizes are crushed down to usable grain sizes.
The goal is therefore to produce sand from gravel or crushed rock from quarries that has properties similar to or equivalent to those of natural sand.
The advantage of sand production through a crushing process over natural extraction from a deposit is that the sand produced by crushing has more broken edges and thus better structural properties. The challenge, however, is that the production of fine fractions generates a large amount of unusable dust. This dust is subsequently landfilled, negatively impacting both economic efficiency and the environmental footprint.
With its SGC technology, Crush and Size Technology has developed a highly efficient method for producing coarse-grained sand with a very low proportion of fine particles (<0.063 mm). The SGC technology is a roller mill specifically designed for the production of smaller particle sizes.
The crushing process using the SGC is very gentle and energy-efficient. Due to the low rotational speed of the rollers, the grain is not shattered but broken by pressure crushing. As a result, the proportion of unusable fine grains in sand production is far lower than in other processes.
In the production of coarse-grained sand, the material is processed in a closed-loop system.
Because the grains are processed in the SGC, they take on a cubic shape. This quality characteristic distinguishes SGC technology from sand produced by impact crushers, which typically yield splintered grains.
The SGC roller crusher produces high-quality sand with a cubic grain shape while consuming little energy and causing minimal wear, making a valuable contribution to the conservation of natural resources.
