Sand demand is rising every year — and depending on regional availability natural reserves are limited. The construction industry is already feeling the pressure, and the term “sand shortage” has become part of the international debate. Most sand is still extracted from natural deposits, but these can no longer keep up with demand, and not every naturally occurring sand is suitable for construction in the first place.
That is why coarse gravel and rock are increasingly being crushed down to usable sand fractions — sand production by crushing has become an essential alternative.
The goal is clear: produce sand from gravel or quarry rock with properties as close to natural sand as possible. Crushed sand even has an advantage — the broken edges deliver better structural properties than natural sand.
The challenge: producing fine fractions usually generates large amounts of unusable dust. This dust ends up in landfill and weighs on both your bottom line and the environmental footprint.
With its SGC technology, Crush + Size Technology has developed a highly efficient way to produce coarse-grained sand with a very low fines (< 0.063 mm). The SGC is a roller crusher purpose-built for smaller grain sizes.
The crushing process is gentle and energy-efficient: the slowly rotating rollers don’t shatter the grain — they break it through pressure crushing. The result is significantly less unusable fine sand than with other crushing technologies.
In the production of coarse-grained sand, the material is processed in a closed-loop system.
Because the grains are processed in the SGC, they take on a cubic shape. This quality characteristic distinguishes SGC technology from sand produced by impact crushers, which typically yield splintered grains.
The SGC roller crusher produces high-quality sand with a cubic grain shape while consuming little energy and causing minimal wear, making a valuable contribution to the conservation of natural resources.
