Up to any challenge
To ensure the structural integrity of the rail network, several million concrete railroad ties are replaced each year throughout Germany and Europe.
These ties are made of high-quality concrete, into which reinforcing bars, L-shaped steel, pipes, and other materials are embedded, depending on the country and specific design. In addition, they may contain “impurities” such as wood and metal for recycling purposes.
Up to any challenge
Recycling concrete railroad ties presents a variety of challenges, for which our roll crushers offer proven and cost-effective solutions.
Despite their length, the sleepers can be fed into our roller crusher as a whole or in batches of 2–3 at a time using a grab. This eliminates the need for the time-consuming process of cutting the sleepers.
The high iron content in and on the sleepers results in significant wear on the crushing equipment. Our roller crushers operate at low rotational speeds with high torque, ensuring very low wear rates compared to other crushing methods.
Large metal parts can cause machine damage and downtime. The built-in overload protection provided by the hydraulic gap adjustment ensures trouble-free and continuous operation.
A high proportion of filler and sand makes it difficult to recycle the concrete and reduces the cost-effectiveness of recycling the sleepers. Our roll crushers crush the material gently, ensuring a high proportion of high-quality aggregates in the recycled concrete aggregate with minimal fines and sand content.
Crushing techniques that operate at high rotational speeds break down contaminants such as plastic or wood particles so finely that they are difficult to remove from the recycled material. The gentle crushing action of our roller crusher preserves the size of the contaminants, making them easy to separate.
Our roll crushers achieve nearly 100% exposure of the tension rods, enabling a clean separation of the materials.
High-quality secondary raw material
Our DRC series double-roll crushers are used in the recycling of railroad ties. Equipped with hydraulic gap adjustment and overload protection, they are ideally suited for producing high-quality secondary raw materials from decommissioned railroad ties.
Final particle sizes of less than 80 mm can be achieved. Our SGC series is used for high-quality further processing into granules <16 mm as concrete aggregate.
A throughput of 150 t/h or more is realistically achievable and depends heavily on the operator’s ability to quickly feed the concrete railroad ties into the crusher using a grab.
The roller crusher is available in both stationary and mobile versions.
